Test case may lead to thousands of asbestos compensation claimsA test case may open the doors to thousands of compensation claims for asbestos-related diseases a court heard yesterday. This comes amid fears that schools built in the 60s are riddled with the potentially deadly material. The court heard that 50,000 cases against councils are expected over the next 40 years. The case involved Dianne Willmore (49) who blames her time as a pupil for her incurable lung cancer. It is likely that she was exposed to asbestos dust from ceiling tiles where she was a pupil in the 1970’s. This potentially increased her chance of developing mesothelioma later in life. The Defendant agreed to pay the Claimant a sum of £240,000.00 in compensation as a result of being diagnosed with the non-curable condition of mesothelioma. |
